The Cultural Affairs Division is the largest single provider of arts services for the City of Santa Monica. It is also the leading local advocate for ongoing support for the arts before all City agencies and in the private sector. Its annual grants programs enable local arts organizations to mount dozens of performances, exhibitions, and activities for Santa Monica residents and visitors.
Division Programs
Percent For Art Program. The Division manages and maintains a collection of public sculpture, paintings and murals and actively works to ensure the inclusion of art elements in all Santa Monica public works projects. Gallery of Public Artworks
Art Bank
The Division is responsible for the acquisition, installation and documentation of the City's large collection of portable artworks by contemporary artists in Los Angeles County which hangs in public buildings.
Grant Programs
The Division offers four grant programs:
- Arts Education Transportation Grants Program provides funding to community organizations and public schools to transport Santa Monica residents to cultural venues throughout Los Angeles County.
- Community Arts Grants Program provides project grants for up to $6,000 to Santa Monica-based non-profit arts agencies.
- Latino Community Arts Grants Program provides up to $6,000 for Santa Monica-based community organizations offering artistic programming to, for, or about the City's Latino population.
- Cultural/Arts Organizational Support Grant Program provides funds for ongoing administrative support and technical assistance to Santa Monica-based non-profit cultural and arts organizations.
Technical Assistance - http://calawyersforthearts.org - The Division presents low-cost or free workshops for local artists and residents addressing legal and copyright issues, marketing, management and other matters of interest to artists. Santa Monica Festival - The Division produces the prestigious Santa Monica Festival, a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary celebration of Santa Monica's cultural history and environment. This all-day performing arts celebration in Clover Park offers opportunities for all ages to learn of the rich traditions that have contributed to present-day Santa Monica through the work of artists.
